Duck is a vacation rental destination. The large majority of visitors rents a home.
Most of the homes are relatively new and offer a wide range of amenities. It’s common to find homes that are larger than 5,000 square feet, and many have pools and hot tubs; some even have home gyms and fitness centers. Since such large homes are readily available, many of them are rented for group gatherings, such as small weddings, family reunions and corporate retreats. The trend in Duck vacationing is for several families to rent a large home together, splitting the cost of the house and all staying under one roof. Some families and groups prefer to rent neighboring homes.
Rental fees depend primarily upon proximity to the water and size of the home. For instance, a four-bedroom home, mid-island home might run about $1,300 a week while an eight-bedroom, oceanfront home could cost $10,000 a week or more. Every rental company has
extensive rental brochures and websites that highlight each property with all its amenities and price ranges. Summer rates are obviously the most expensive, while fall and spring are less expensive and winter is the cheapest of all. Most homes do not allow pets, but some do, so call around if it's important to you.
Many of the rental homes are in amenity-laden subdivisions that have community swimming pools, hot tubs, tennis courts and bike paths for their guests to use. Ask your rental agent about such communities.
